OWS protesters arrested near NYSE


From the New York Post: The opening bell rang on Wall Street this morning, amidst controlled chaos on downtown streets as protesters clogged foot traffic and renewed their calls for populist economic reform. About a dozen Occupy Wall Street protesters have been arrested during a march near the New York Stock Exchange on the anniversary of the grass-roots movement.

Cops built barricades at every entrance to Wall Street, forcing financial sector workers to show company IDs or have a colleague inside come outside to get them.

The NYPD has been planning for weeks how to handle today’s Occupy Wall Street protests that mark the one-year anniversary of the movement’s birth.

Thousands of protesters spontaneously broke into song, “Happy Birthday.” .
