Goldman’s Top Dog Is History



According to the WSJ Wall Street's longest-serving chief financial officer stepped down Tuesday as Goldman Sachs Group Inc. GS -0.02% gave its first nod to a group of younger leaders.

The New York company named trading executive Harvey M. Schwartz, 48 years old, to take over Jan. 31 for Chief Financial Officer David Viniar. The 57-year-old Mr. Viniar has served as Goldman's financial chief since the company's 1999 initial public offering, and is one of the best-compensated executives in the financial industry.

Goldman's board approved the move on Friday, during its regularly scheduled meeting, and the management committee was told Tuesday morning. Mr. Viniar plans to take Mr. Schwartz to meet Goldman investors starting after the company's earnings call next month….
