Deep Thoughts (Wednesday Edition) : Apple, The Next Microsoft, Or Vice Versa?

From Forbes: When Apple issued its shoddy map app for iPhone 5, I asked myself whether Steve Jobswould have allowed all that to pass just to make an early intro date. Jobs would have gone ballistic, summarily firing the section head of the map app group. There is some mitigation herein. Google’s initial map app was full of bugs, too. They relied on consumer feedback to make it better. No substitute for perfectionism..... I’m rolling on the ground, reading Steve Ballmer’s comments that Microsoft would be looking more and more like Apple. This is a reverse kind of hubris. If ever an Internet and software house blew its evolution into a content provider, Microsoft gets my palm. Microsoft is perennially late on new product intros whether smart phones or tablets. None of its products ever showed the elegance of Apple’s offerings. Its online services division runs a distant second to Google, still losing billions, annually. The Xbox, point to point, has lost billions, too….................................................................................................................. Wait, wait, there’s more at http://www.forbes.com/sites/martinsosnoff/2012/10/16/apple-the-next-microsoft-or-vice-versa/
