Letters Urge Judge Rakoff to Punish Gupta
From the WSJ: The letters have been pouring in for months from supporters of former Goldman Sachs director Rajat Gupta, many of them scions of business and public life, including Bill Gates and Deepak Chopra, as his sentencing for insider trading approaches……
Now, a few are starting to trickle in from people urging that Gupta be severely punished. They arrived in U.S. District Judge Rakoff’s court after the WSJ and other outlets published stories starting Friday about the more than 200 letters from supporters, documenting Mr. Gupta’s many philanthropic endeavors and seeking leniency. Judge Rakoff is scheduled to sentence Mr. Gupta next week…..
Kenneth Lehrer, a former adjunct professor of finance at the University of Houston, said in his letter that he was writing on behalf of his former students “to seek adequate protection of our society and our financial system.”………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
