Great Caesar's Ghost! Yahoo!, the onetime Internet powerhouse founded in 1994, has sued Facebook, the current Internet powerhouse launched ten years later, for allegedly violating patents that are essential to customized advertising and social networking, Forbes reports. The lawsuit lists 10 patents including the ominously named “Social Networking Patent” that Yahoo! says Facebook has knowingly violated to place itself on the top of the Web heap.
“For much of the technology upon which Facebook is based, Yahoo! got there first,” says the lawsuit. “Facebook’s entire social network model, which allows users to create profiles and connect with, among other things, persons and businesses, is based upon Yahoo!’s patented social-networking technology.”
