Wanna Know How Bad NY Hurts? Food, water centers set to open in Coney, Staten islands

Think Radio Free Europe!  Food and water is headed to New York neighborhoods most hard hit by Hurricane Sandy, City hall announced today.  Mayor Bloomberg said distribution centers for the 3 p.m. food drop are being planned now. So far, City Hall said needy New Yorkers can pick up food and water in Coney Island -- at West 25th Street and Surf Avenue -- and Staten Island -- at Mill Road and New Dorp Lane.

Storm victims will be able to grab up to three prepared meals and five bottles of water at a time, officials said. More meals will be handed out tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m..

The supplies will be passed out by 400 National Guard members, 150 NYC Service volunteers and two dozen Salvation Army members....
