Germany’s New Swagger: Like It or Lump It!

According to the Daily Mail (UK) Forget the rallies and jackboots. Germany has not been so powerful since 1941 when most of Europe was under her sway and her army was carving its way through the Soviet Union. I obviously do not mean to suggest the country is again hell-bent on that kind of world domination. My point is that post-war Germany has finally come of age.

For four decades after World War II, West Germany was a relatively self-effacing country, quietly focused on creating wealth, more than a little guilt-ridden, and happy to develop what was still called the Common Market in equal partnership with France....

Over recent days, a European cabal led by Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, has effectively engineered the removal of prime ministers Silvio Berlusconi in Italy and George Papandreou in Greece, and ensured their replacements by so-called technocrats who are supposed to o what they are told. A pro-active and confident Germany is making the running, and unashamedly so, in a way she has not presumed to do since World War II. Nor is the German government any longer reticent about publicly telling other European countries, including Britain, about how to behave….

Wait, wait...there's more at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2062500/We-longer-need-fear-jackboot-great-deal-fear-German-bossy-boots.html#ixzz1dxDi2KHq
