
Steve Jobs probably held his iPhone up to his left ear. Specific personality and biology traits can identify the mavericks in a workplace, a new study says, and bosses would do well to look for them, The Toronto Star reports. A maverick “might seem dysfunctional at the outset, being disruptive and not a team player,” said study co-author Dr. Elliroma Gardiner of the London School of Economics.
“But when we’re asking so much more of our workers now with fewer resources, we should give workers more leeway to tap into their creativity.” Still, she admits, “a lot of managers will be quite nervous when they read this.”
Hiring a maverick — a potential Steve Jobs or Virgin empire boss Richard Branson — means “being more willing to put up with” a person who is disruptive, not a team player and often abrasive, she said. The upside is a new, successful, way of doing things….
